I started CHUNKS in Scotland in 1988 as a handyman and carpenter, crafting simple but durable furniture using thick (chunky!) wood. At that time I worked on two sixteenth century Scottish castle restoration projects (Forter and Dairsie) which expanded my carpentry, joinery and building skills.

Following a ‘break’ to get a degree and work for an international bank, I wanted to get back to what I enjoyed doing most – making, building and fixing things. So I resurrected CHUNKS in 2001 in the south of England, working mainly as a carpenter and handyman, but also on various other larger building contracts such as extensions, stone walls, etc.).

I moved to the North of England in April 2004 and have managed to build a very satisfied customer base from which I get most of my work. I prefer to find my customers by word of mouth and by recommendation, but have also started to receive increasing numbers of enquiries from the internet. With this blossoming interest, I am focussing on doing what I enjoy best, which is building fitted wardrobes and other "unusual" projects, though I will not forget that my customer base has been built from doing the smaller jobs!
